Finish wrapping those gifts for the family, Bah Humbug, I&#8217;d prefer something Raspberry Pi related of course.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve had one of these sat on my workbench for weeks, it was time to get it going.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wiki.raspberrytorte.com\/images\/thumb\/0\/08\/CISECOPiLite.JPG\/800px-CISECOPiLite.JPG\" alt=\"CISECO PiLite Add on Board for Raspberry Pi\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/shop.ciseco.co.uk\/pi-lite-lots-of-leds-for-the-raspberry-pi-0805-red\/\" title=\"PiLite\" target=\"_blank\">PiLite<\/a> is a adaptation of the Arduino LED shield revised for the Raspberry Pi. It features a 9&#215;14 array of either Red or White LED.<br \/>\nTo get this going, I started with a <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.raspberrytorte.com\/index.php?title=Setup_NOOBS\" title=\"Setup_NOOBS\" target=\"_blank\">vanilla build of NOOBS_1.3.2<\/a> and following the official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openmicros.org\/index.php\/articles\/94-ciseco-product-documentation\/raspberry-pi\/280-b040-pi-lite-beginners-guide\" title=\"PiLite User Guide\" target=\"_blank\">PiLite documentation<\/a> I found a number of <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.raspberrytorte.com\/index.php?title=Pi_Lite\" title=\"PiLite Setup on the wiki\" target=\"_blank\">tweaks are required<\/a> to get it going.<br \/>\nOperation is via the serial port where you simply send your text for display or the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/CisecoPlc\/PiLite\" target=\"_blank\">python code examples<\/a> might inspire you.<\/p>\n<p>Given the weather was terrible at the time, I decided to adapt the example PiLiteWeather script to display the weather along with a seasonal message or two!<br \/>\nI added, detection if the Pi is connected to the internet, temperature range, wind direction, multiple locations and of course seasonal spirit.<br \/>\nYou can find my <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/martinrgmiller\/PiLite\/blob\/master\/PiLiteSeasonalWeather.py\" title=\"Github repo for my PiLite code\" target=\"_blank\">script here<\/a>.<br \/>\nI edited the file premissions and <code>\/etc\/rc.local<\/code> to get it to boot from start-up. Its not too heavy and can be hung as a decoration especially when mounted in a <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.pimoroni.com\/products\/pibow-raspberry-pi-case\" title=\"PiBow Rainbox case for Raspberry Pi\" target=\"_blank\">PiBow case<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe video of the <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/9ItjJI-uRyY\" title=\"youtube vid of the PiLite running my script\" target=\"_blank\">script in operation<\/a> isn&#8217;t very good quality but is the best I could what with all those presents needing wrapping.<br \/>\nHappy Holidays<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On my first full day off in months, what should I do?
